Graduate Curatorial Internship
Job Description

The Nasher Sculpture Center is pleased to announce the 2010–2011 Graduate Curatorial Internship.  The graduate curatorial intern will experience the full range of curatorial activities, including exhibition preparation, gallery installations, documentation and research projects involving the Sculpture Center’s permanent collection, as well as publication projects and special exhibitions.  S/he will assist in authoring and designing interpretive materials in conjunction with curators and educators. The intern will also participate in planning sessions for programs and exhibitions and give tours of the collection and exhibitions.

Open since 2003, the Nasher Sculpture Center features a 55,000-square foot building by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano and a 1.4-acre sculpture garden designed by award-winning landscape designer Peter Walker.  The Nasher is the primary home of the renowned Raymond and Patsy Nasher Collection of modern and contemporary sculpture which features seminal works by artists such as Rodin, Brancusi, Matisse, Picasso, Giacometti, David Smith, and Richard Serra.  In addition to changing exhibitions of the collection, the Nasher also organizes and presents major national and international loan exhibitions.

Work towards a graduate degree in art history required.
Commitment: 20–30 hours per week
Stipend commensurate with time commitment

Graphic / Web Designer


Position Purpose:
The Graphic Designer produces visual solutions to the communication needs of the institution, while creating within the graphic standards identity.  The Designer will also be influential in directing the re-design of existing website and the on-going updating of content.
  
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design Scope: Designs Nasher materials from concept to finished product including brochures, posters, marketing and promotional materials, in-house materials, invitations, and advertisements for newspapers and magazines.
  • Web-based Design: Oversees the re-design of existing web site and designs and maintains updated information as needed.  Develops and implements on-line marketing pieces including newsletters and e-blasts.
  • Implementation: Recommends materials and printing techniques for printed collateral. Proofreads finished products to produce accurate and high-quality work. Works directly with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, web developers and staff during the creative process.
  • Coordination: Manages the production schedule with Marketing to ensure all projects are completed in a timely fashion with within deadline. Coordinates with outside graphic design agencies and freelancers as needed. Works with Rights and Reproductions to ensure all photographs have been approved by ARS for use in materials.
  • Research: Actively stays involved in current developments in design and IT, particularly design programs such as Quark Xpress, FreeHand, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, 3D Studio, Acrobat, Director, Dreamweaver and Flash.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: BA in Graphic Design or comparable degree.
  • Experience: Qualified individuals must have 5 to 7 years of graphic and web design experience, in an agency, corporate or non-profit environment.

Skills:

  • Outstanding written/verbal communications and organizational skills
  • Must have applied skill in print design, web design, and Macromedia Flash. Must be comfortable with InDesign or Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, GoLive, and Microsoft Office. Experience with Constant Contact preferred.
  • Must be flexible with a strong attention to detail and ability to produce an aggressive level of output

Volunteer
The Nasher Sculpture Center is currently seeking volunteers with backgrounds in carpentry and residential or commercial repair.  We are looking for energetic people who want to use their talents to support the arts!

Eligibility:

  • 25 yrs or older
  • Must have prior experience with painting, refurnishing wood, changing light bulbs, and other duties traditionally associated with maintenance.
  • Must be self motivated to work alone and complete a project in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist our Facility Department as needed to help maintain our building and grounds and prepare for special events.
