Sign up to take a curator led tour of Japan, Form and Function: The Montgomery Collection at the Crow Collection of Asian Art and experience Theaster Gates’s take on Mingei before or after your tour with a live DJ set from 6-8pm.
On Friday, April 14, the Crow Museum of Asian Art opens Japan, Form and Function: The Montgomery Collection. Presenting Japanese folk art from a range of media, the exhibition dedicates a strong focus on the Mingei Movement (1920’s to 50’s), which revived the awareness and appreciation of Japanese local craftsmanship in a period of modernization and rising consumerism. It is this same movement that inspired Theaster Gates to develop the concept of Afro Mingei.
The Crow Museum of Asian Art is located across the street from The Nasher Sculpture Center at 2010 Flora Street. Please meet there for the tour.
